The Four Communication Skills Leaders Need Most

I have finally dragged myself back to reality and off of vacation and I have to share this great article I just found from Alan Weiss on his blog.

Weiss shares the story that is probably pretty familiar to most of us of a server messing up our order simply because he/she wasn’t listening. In his case, it was just a cup of coffee but in business, a lack of listening skills can lead to some real loses of time and money.

In the article, Weiss proposes that there are four main communication skills that we all need and we especially need to be effective leaders.

  1. Read with comprehension.
  2. Write with expression.
  3. Speak with influence.
  4. Listen with discernment.

All of these skills take constant work and effort to improve. It is worth our time to hone these skills so that we can communicate with our peers and employees in the best way possible.
